Competition Overview
Each year, TAPT hosts the Texas School Bus Driver Safety Competition. This is one of the most exciting events in the industry, with the best of the best school bus drivers from around the great state of Texas coming together competing for top honors and recognition. This event allows professional school bus drivers the opportunity to show pride while exhibiting their skills and dedication to pupil transportation.
The event begins with General Knowledge and Vehicle Inspection written tests challenging the contestants’ comprehension of school bus driver certification and commercial driving laws and regulations. The contestants will get behind the wheel and demonstrate their ability to maneuver a school bus in and around various driving obstacle courses. Each event is either timed or measured to determine the score. Many hours of practice are needed for perfection, to receive the maximum amount of points per event. Drivers spend many non-compensated hours to reach a superior level of excellence.
